Baba mi is an ongoing photographic series exploring the relationship between bi-cultural fathers and their daughters. I began this project in the Netherlands and continue to develop this independently in the UK.
It started with a simple question: how do these relationships really feel, beyond the stereotypes often portrayed? public narratives often focus on absence or emotional distance reducing these stories into a single story.
Baba mi seeks to offer a more layered perspective, one where care, tension, love and misunderstanding can exist at the same time.
Through intimate conversations and portraits, the project creates space for fathers and daughters to reflect on their relationship, often for the first time.
The work is also personal to me. Growing up, my relationship with my own father played an important role in shaping my confidence and sense of self. This project is a way of reflecting on that experience exploring both common threads and personal differences.
Baba mi continues to grow through new conversations and encounters.
